Ragdale Hall Health Hydro and Thermal Spa

Last weekend we headed over to the luxurious haven that is Ragdale Hall Health Hydro and Thermal Spa, enjoying a Clarins spa day with Serenity Facial plus overnight stay. Based just outside Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, the spa is a stunning retreat, ideal for treasured time out.

Technically indulging in the Clarins Mum and Me package, I took Mr B along to enjoy a much needed escape after a hectic few weeks. Easy to access via car, we were travelling from Yorkshire after dropping the kids off for some grandparent treat time. The spa is also only 8 miles from Melton Mowbray station with great mainline train links, and if you are coming from the city, London is just 110 miles away.

A staggeringly beautiful manor house dating back to the Victorian period, the building’s breathtaking sight immediately welcomes you. Privately owned since 1990, Ragdale has an exclusive feel to it as a calm retreat from the chaos of the outside world, a concept which you can tell is fiercely protected. Met by the warm and lovely Penny, we were given the guest guarantee of excellent service and the knowledge that every query no matter how big or small, would be answered. Sipping on a complimentary welcome coffee, we filled in health questionnaires and embarked on a tour of Ragdale. The vast spa and health facilities can be categorized into fitness, treatment and relaxation zones with plentiful food and drink sections, plus shopping and outdoor areas to explore too.

Settling down on a lounger in The Pavilion for a sneaky snooze, I took in the serene surroundings as my other half hit the gym. Next to lunch, dining facilities include; the Verandah Bar, Garden Room, Conservatory and Dining Room. We tucked into a set starter of delicious soup before moving onto the amazing all-you-can-eat buffet, which boasted quinoa salad, sushi, duck carpaccio, beef fajitas and other divine dishes. Dessert comprising equally scrummy options, I went for the pineapple jelly before devouring a gluten free brownie and Pimm’s later on in the Verandah Bar.

All set for the treatment stage of our stay, I’d been eagerly anticipating my Serenity Facial with Clarins being a firm Mummy Mode beauty favourite. There are 50 various treatment rooms focusing on both traditional and holistic therapies, a manicure and pedicure room, The Beauty Express area and dry flotation room. Clarins is an integral part of the Ragdale beauty regime and guests can buy all their recommended products from the beauty shop. On the Mum and Me package, this also meant picking up a lovely Clarins beauty bag containing Eau Dynamisante fragrance and Moisturising Body Lotion.

After relaxing in The Atrium, we were shown to our respective treatment rooms. Therapist Sophie talked me through my skin type and any ongoing concerns using Clarins products such as their Cleansing Milk with Gentian, Toner with Iris, Lotus Face Oil, Hydra Matte Lotion, Double Serum and Multi Active Day Cream. Gently exfoliating my skin, the Pure and Radiant Mask was then applied.  After a tricky few weeks of illness, my skin has felt dull and dreary recently but this was nothing that couldn’t be remedied by Clarins. Sure enough, I emerged from the Serenity Facial feeling relaxed and revitalized, with a gorgeous new glow. Raising fine lines round the eyes as my main skincare moan, Sophie suggested Clarins Beauty Flash Eye Revive, which I will definitely be buying after seeing noticeable post facial results.

My husband had a 40 minute massage, undoing stress and fatigue. Promoting an ongoing sense of inner calm, the massage instantly seemed to have worked wonders. When I joined him in The Atrium after our treatments, he looked completely radiant and ready for an afternoon of further relaxation.

In full unwind mode, our afternoon meant a trip to the Thermal Spa and a dip in the Indoor and Outdoor Waterfall Pool. Making the most of our escape, we explored the Colour Flow Cave, Volcanic Salt Bath, Rose Sauna, Thought Zone, Scented Room, Cave Shower, Ice Niche, Foot Baths, Whirlpool Spas, Water Cascade and Massage Jets, Steam Rooms and Sanarium, and the 25 Metre Swimming Pool. My absolute favourite part of the expansive Ragdale facilities was the Candle Pool, a candle lit secret cave that has to be seen to be believed. Pure, undisturbed bliss is the best way to describe this top-of-the-list reason to return. Another Ragdale saviour was The Retreat, a strictly silent area with decor which whispers sanctuary.

Dinner that evening was as tempting as lunch, a three course a la carte menu which we devoured with wine. As with all meals, dietary requirements are completely catered for and gluten and dairy free options indicated. Impeccable service throughout, it was such a treat to extend our day with an overnight stay. Hosting 93 bedrooms, three suites and a separate lodge should you wish to come as a group, Ragdale intuitively meets your accommodation needs. Breakfast in bed the next day completed our sublime spa experience, a fluffy gown affair which was heaven on a plate. Choosing from a set of menu options, breakfast is delivered within a time-frame of your choice. Our brekkie comprised fresh ingredients, both hot and cold, from smoked salmon and rye bread to pink grapefruit and gluten free muesli.

Checking out on Sunday, we were feeling the benefits of our Clarins treatments for the foreseeable future. Practically floating out of Ragdale on a cloud of contentment, I can’t recommend the health hydro and thermal spa highly enough. A notion mirrored by the numerous travel awards displayed in reception, Ragdale Hall Health Hydro and Thermal Spa is an absolute must visit.

With a Rose Garden, Sunbathing Terrace, Tranquility Garden and Outdoor Pool to sample, we are sure to return again soon.

Our stay at Ragdale was complimentary, in return for this review. We enjoyed the Clarins Mum and Me Time day which is priced at £229 for two people Monday-Thursday or £279 for two people Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We also had a bolt-on stay, the Day Guest Overnighter, giving us a three course dining experience, access to any talks or activities taking place in the evening as well as fitness classes, the gym and continued use of the spa and pools until 10pm. Breakfast in bed to boot, the additional cost of the Day Guest Overnighter is £92 per person when sharing.
