My Favourite North East England Hotspots

As campaigns go, the opportunity to shout about our region will always be right up my street. So when Travelodge* asked me to get involved and discuss my favourite North East England hotspot, it was a no-brainer. My answer is the beaches; miles and miles of gloriously unspoilt coastline.

I grew up in Northumberland and my best memories are of days at the beach, long hours spent covered in sand (and blissfully happy to boot). Our current beach of choice is Alnmouth, which you will find by a small coastal village with sugary white sand and stacks of space to escape. If I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I can hop in the car and offload it all to the sea. It honestly feels like pure therapy, inhaling that air and breathing out my worries. No matter how cold the day is, there’s something so refreshing about the beach. The best bit is we can grab fish and chips from Carlo’s in nearby Alnwick and devour them on the dunes.

If I’m feeling the need for some city excitement, heading to Newcastle always fulfills that brief. In terms of city favourites, I love lunch at the gorgeous and welcoming Italian eaterie Cafe Paradiso, plus a walk along the Quayside. Maybe even dropping the kids off with grandparents and making a night of it. The Mr and I met in Newcastle, where we both lived at the time, so it’s a very special place to us.

There you have it, my North East life in a nutshell- beach time for a chill and a city wander if I’m in the mood for a bit of hustle and bustle. Call me biased, but this is why I love Newcastle and Northumberland so much, because here you will find the best of both worlds.
