Quitting Coffee & Rain Africa Sleep Balm

I love coffee. Really, really love it. But, for the sake of my sleep- I’ve quit.

It was hard to do at first because as a big coffee drinker I had the shakes and aches of caffeine withdrawal. But, after a week without it, I do feel better. I’m not experiencing the highs and lows of the caffeine hit anymore. And to be honest, 17 cups of the stuff wouldn’t have stopped me feeling tired, so there seemed no point in drinking it for a pick-me-up. I know you can get good de-caff, but I’m a bit of an all or nothing girl, and think it would tempt me back to the real deal.

Telling my friend about sleep problems, she suggested I try a sleep balm. On holiday in South Africa at Christmas, she came across Rain Africa. A brand which creates handmade, natural and fair trade products, their ethos is also to protect the environment. Rain Sleep Balm is part of the Bee Essentials Remedies collection and focuses on the skin-nourishing properties of honey. Putting it on my pulse points, it is relaxing and soothing, especially after a bath.

Out of my two children, L is the lightest sleeper and I’ve been using a star chart recently to try and keep her in her own bedroom at night. Always one to want to try out my new goodies, she asked for a bit of the balm. Never sure if these things will work or not, I was absolutely amazed to find she slept the best in ages that night, and every night since. It is making such a difference to her sleep, which is nothing short of miraculous.

I’m not sure how easy it is to find Rain Africa goodies outside of South Africa, and to ship internationally could be pricey. That said, I’m keeping a beady eye out for this beauty brand and would really recommend trying their products.

Between quitting coffee and using the balm, I do think my nights feel more relaxed. And as much as I love coffee and caffeine, I definitely love sleep more.
