We recently took the kids to Byron in Newcastle, a delicious family-friendly hamburger restaurant.
Met by a lovely welcome and buzzing lunchtime atmosphere, Byron is based in a big building opposite the Grey Street Monument in Newcastle. Interiors are city-chic, with stainless steel table tops and exposed brickwork. Led to our booth, there was plenty of space for wriggly kids and they were both presented with colouring packs, which is always a bonus. A restaurant who understands the need for parents to grab a bite in relative peace always gets the thumbs up from us.
Kicking off with some tasty nachos to start, the kids then tucked into their mains from the Mini Byron menu. L chose her fave Macaroni Cheese, while T picked the Mini Classic 3oz burger, both complete with fries.
In the meantime, after much deliberation, I plumped for the limited edition Byronaldo. Aptly named for Euro 2016, this is a mouthwatering 60z hamburger with crispy bacon, Freddar cheese, Bovril onions, crispy onions, bread and butter pickles and special Byron mustard. A unique set of flavours, we found all the team to be totally accommodating, so you could tweak certain parts of the burger if you wanted to.
Mr B wanted the Byron, a 6oz burger plus dry cure bacon, mature Cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion and the famous Byron sauce. While devouring our burgers, we both agreed to have never tasted better. This is seriously fantastic burger fare. For our sides, we shared crispy Sweet Potato Fries and some yum Skin-On Chips.
By the end of our main courses, we were both suitably stuffed, but the kids had room for their puds. T had a creamy, frothy chocolate milkshake and left with a very happy face and milky moustache. L couldn’t resist the chocolate brownie with ice cream and for research purposes, I may have sampled a taste too.
Our whole meal was scrumptious from start to finish, with excellent and speedy service and waiting staff who were happy to meet our every culinary need. A lovely family outing, Byron gets my vote for one of the most family-friendly restaurants in Newcastle.
Now, when shall we go back?
