Dr Murad is an incredible skincare specialist and founder of the skincare brand Murad. One of my favourite products by Murad is their Invisblur Perfecting Shield, a serum which preps, primes and protects skin.
This summer, in collaboration with The Prince’s Trust, Murad have created a super-size 50ml version (RRP £69.50), with £10 from every sale going to the charity. An absolute skincare saviour, Invisiblur is an invisible sunscreen which smooths out the skin and blurs imperfections. It really is a miracle worker.
All this in mind, Dr Murad is here to offer you his top summer SPF tips:
- Wear broad spectrum sunscreen. Everyone should be wearing broad-spectrum protection every day, but as the weather gets warmer it becomes vital. The most damaging rays from the sun are in fact in the UVA spectrum; therefore it’s important to look for products with broad spectrum protection which offers both SPF and PA rating to ensure you’re covered from both the ageing UVA rays and the burning UVB rays. UVA rays are actually the same strength all year round and can even penetrate through clouds and through windows. Plus, they can contribute to premature ageing, collagen degradation and even skin cancer.
- Reapply your sunscreen regularly and make sure you’re applying enough! For each sunscreen application, apply one ounce of sunscreen (equal to a shot glass) to the entire body and face daily and continuously reapply when out in the sun for long periods of time. If you plan on swimming or being in water, apply water resistant sunscreen every 40 to 80 minutes for optimal protection.
- Don’t rely on SPF in makeup. While SPF in makeup will work, it’s not necessarily practical and offering full protection. We must remember if it doesn’t contain broad spectrum sun protection (UVA and UVB protection) then we may not be receiving the full protection from the sun we need and may be missing out on protection from the ageing UVA rays. Plus, makeup can easily rub off leaving your skin unprotected. Look at it as an extra layer of protection, not the full deal.
