Image Vs Reality

Image VS Reality.jpg

I uploaded a pic onto Instagram earlier this week, one of me in some gorgeous new fitness clothes. Originally the image was earmarked primarily as a style post, before I stopped and decided to add a healthy helping of reality alongside.

This is what I wrote:

Good morning Monday
I was going to say something style-related, and then suddenly felt compelled to share the story behind my outfit picture
This is me, in excruciating pain. I look much the same without pain. I’ve just become an expert at hiding it, and refusing to let said pain define me
Put simply, the endometriosis battle started 19 years ago and those curve balls keep on coming. Hospital stays, 10 invasive operations and the opportunity to thieve countless glamorous backless NHS gowns
I’ve learnt that you never know what someone is dealing with or has overcome, and not to presume anything. Which is why kindness always feels so important. It is everything
And as much as I am nervous about posting this, using my voice to help others feels a damn valuable tool too. We are in it together, and that is amazing

A topic I’ve spoken about before, I truly believe in the power of raising awareness. As what’s the point of going through something if you can’t hug and help others too?

Women’s health aside, the wider point covers avoiding the comparison vortex, not writing someone off if they can’t make an engagement, trying to reach out whether you feel like it or not, and even offering a smile to that frazzled person at the supermarket/ school gate/ office. I’m going to follow my own advice and do at least two of these today.

P.s The above clothing is from the Kimberly Wyatt Zakti Activewear collection, and every single piece radiates comfort. Well worth checking out, for lounging, dancing and/or looking tres stylish on a run.

Thank you for writing this! It is so important to remember that behind a beautiful photo could be a person that is suffering.
