Festive Beauty Base Buys

So it seems we’re in full festive swing, with Christmas parties and sparkly eye makeup aplenty. As well as glittery shadow and a red lip, I also like to focus on simple pick-me-ups laying the foundations for a festive makeup feel.

My current favourites were found at Debenhams, who sent me a Christmas pressie gift voucher last week.

These include Benefit High Brow Glow (£18.50) for a shimmery pink highlighter effect which can also be used on the lid and cupid’s bow, making for a nifty handbag essential. Forget faffing about with different palettes, this beauty is a serious multi-tasker brightening the brow bone and offering a highlighter alternative.

Whether you use YSL Touche Eclat currently or not, their limited edition Dazzling Lights sparkly collector’s version (£25.50) is well worth snapping up. A cult beauty buy, I accentuate cheek bones with it, as well as making the under eye area pop. Touche Eclat combines the power of both a highlighter and concealer.

Paired together, the above duo are a force to be reckoned with. I like uncomplicated solutions, and they definitely do the trick. If you’re in the market for a heavy duty concealer, Benefit’s recent addition, Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer (£14) has also become a staple. Light yet efficient, the little pot diminishes the appearance of tired Christmas eyes.

Adding in a decent transparent powder, you have to try Clarins Pore Perfecting Mattifying Kit (£33), complete with blotting papers.  A nifty kit that slots into your handbag for on the move touch-ups, set makeup and refresh as you go.

Avoid that caked-on look, as with transparent powder, you simply tighten up concealer or foundation, creating a matte finish. No shiny Rudolph noses here!

In terms of foundation, Clinique Beyond Perfecting (£27) tops my list every time. A concealer and foundation in one, you only need to use a tiny bit, and can build up for greater coverage. It goes on quite thick, then settles into skin and adjusts to your own tone. Despite trying out several others, it remains a firm makeup bag must-have and I would recommend investigating.

Apply all of the above plus maybe a little more, add a red lip and run out the door.

With thanks to Debenhams for the lovely Christmas pressie.
